If you’ve ever wanted a chill golf trip by the ocean where you roll out of bed, hit the range, play 18, then slide straight into the spa, Onyria Quinta da Marinha Golf Resort might be your spot.
Set in Cascais just outside Lisbon, it’s a really great setup, coastal views, a fun but playable course, modern hotel, spa, padel, and plenty of extra activities.
Here’s how our stay went, and whether Bogey Book would actually come back for another boys’ trip.
Key Takeaways
If you don’t feel like reading the whole thing, here’s the quick lowdown on Onyria Quinta da Marinha:
- Location is unreal, minutes from Cascais and the Atlantic, with the course running through the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
- The golf course is fun, fair, and scenic, each hole has its own name, and a couple of holes near the ocean are genuinely memorable.
- Practice setup is solid, good driving range, putting green, and clean electric buggies with quality rental clubs.
- Hotel rooms are modern, spacious, and most have balconies overlooking either the course or the greenery around it.
- Spa & wellness are legit, indoor spa, sauna/steam-type facilities, plus outdoor pool and chill zones for proper post-round recovery.
- Extra stuff like padel, stand-up paddle in their ponds, and even triathlon-style training options make it feel more like a sports base than just a hotel.
And if you want to see how we actually played it, we’ve got a full 18-hole vlog from Quinta da Marinha on the Bogey Book YouTube channel.
The Golf Experience ⛳
The Course
Quinta da Marinha is an 18-hole, par-71 course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., winding through pine trees with views toward the Atlantic and the Sintra hills.
Layout-wise, it’s not ther hardest course ever, but it’s also not a pushover:
- The front nine eases you in with wider fairways and straightforward tee shots.
- The back nine gets a bit more technical with doglegs, trees, and some great green complexes.
- Every hole has a name (things like “The Bridge” and “The Ravine”), which makes the round feel more like a story than just “Hole 6, Hole 7…”
We decided to play from the tips (obviously), set ourselves the goal of shooting -6 as a team, and ended up at -5. Close enough, the boys were satisfied.
The turf was in good shape, the greens were on the quicker side, and there was enough variety in hole design that we never felt like we were playing the same shot over and over.

Signature Coastal Holes
One of the coolest bits of the course is when it starts to flirt with the coastline. There’s a stretch where you’re playing toward the ocean, and it just hits different.
The signature holes near the water are the kind where you jsut have to stop, look around, and simply enjoy, especially the 13th which is called "The Atlantic Ocean".
It’s not Pebble Beach, but for a resort course near Lisbon, it’s properly scenic.

Driving Range & Practice Setup
We started the day at the range, and it was exactly what you want on a golf trip:
- Big open range right next to the hotel
- A shady side and a sunny side (we geeked around in the sunny side)
- Decent balls, clear targets, and good turf to hit from
There’s also a short-game / putting area which we used for the usual Bogey Book warm-up of 10 minutes on the range and 3 putts before going straight to the first.
Gear, Rentals & Buggies
Huge plus was that the rental gear is actually good. We got a TaylorMade setup (Qi-series irons and decent woods).
Honestly, if you’re flying in and don’t want to drag your own clubs just like we don't, you’re not going to feel handicapped here. They have:
- Good condition rental sets (not those “mystery steel from 2004” vibes)
- Electric buggies that actually feel looked after, not on life support
- A relaxed but steady on-course pace, we never felt rushed, but we also weren’t stuck behind a four-ball of 36-handicap CEOs for five hours
For us, having confidence in the rentals made a big difference. If we hit a bad shot, we couldn’t blame the clubs, which is deeply inconvenient but fair.

On-Course Vibes & Our Round
We played a full 18, filming as we went, and the course delivered a great mix of:
- Birdie chances on the par-5s
- Tougher par-3s where wind + small greens made it a bit tough
- A few tight tee shots where houses and trees suddenly become very, very relevant
We rolled in a bunch of birdies, made some questionable decisions, and had exactly the kind of round you want on a golf trip: scoreable, scenic, slightly chaotic.

The Hotel Vibes 🏨
Location & First Impressions
The resort sits inside the Quinta da Marinha estate, a peaceful, green area just outside Cascais and not far from Guincho Beach and the coastline.
You’re close enough to the ocean and town to go exploring, but far enough that the hotel feels like its own little golf bubble.
Check-in was smooth, staff were super friendly, and it had that “you’re here to relax and play golf” energy from the start.

Rooms
Our room setup was great, they were modern with a clean design, plenty of space for all of our filming + daily gear.
The beds were comfortable and they also had strong AC which is very important after being geeked in the sun for 18 holes plus the balcony view was unreal.
But the coolest part was that the team got bus both custom Onyria Quinta Da Marinha bag tags upon our arrival, that's the first time we experienced something like that.

Spa, Pools & Recovery
Post-round, the resort really hits. You’ve got the following:
- An outdoor pool area for proper sun-chill time
- Indoor spa facilities with things like sauna, steam / Turkish bath, jacuzzi and relaxation areas
- Massages and treatments available if you want to go full “Tour pro after a major”
We rotated between sauna, pool (indoor and outdoor), and also got in a couple of sunbathing sessions, safe to say the boys were well rested after their rounds.

Padel, SUP & Triathlon-Style Stuff
Fun fact, this isn’t just a “play golf, eat, repeat” place, it’s very much a sports hub. Around the resort and Quinta da Marinha area you’ve got access to:
- Padel and tennis courts (which we fully abused, obviously)
- Easy access to stand-up paddle and ocean activities down in Cascais
- A coastline that’s basically built for running, cycling, and triathlon-style training sessions
If you’re the type who likes stacking sessions, morning run, golf, spa, then padel under the lights, this place makes that pretty easy.
Food, Bars & Theme Nights
Restaurant and bar-wise, the resort has multiple spots where you can eat and drink:
- Rocca Restaurant which is an à-la-carte option with local Portuguese couisine
- Five Pines Restaurant, which is where everyone hast their hotel dinners and breakfasts
- Trent Jones Bar where you can find yourself basically any drink you want
During our stay, they also ran themed food nights like seafood night, Mexican night and Italian night.
Breakfast was exactly what you want before golf: eggs, pastries, fruit, and enough options that both health enthusiasts and munchers can be happy.

Filming, After-Hours & Bogey Book Shenanigans
One thing we really appreciated was how supportive the staff were with us filming content. After the main tee sheet cleared out, they let us:
- Go back out and shoot shorts and B-roll drone shots
- Geek around on some of the signature holes
- Get some bussin' Instagram pictures
Big shoutout to the team at Onyria Quinta da Marinha for trusting the boys with their cameras to not cause too much chaos.

Who This Resort Is Perfect For
In our opinion, Onyria Quinta da Marinha is ideal if you’re:
- Planning a golf trip with the boys where you want everything on-site
- Looking for a couples’ golf escape, one of you can grind on the range, the other hits the spa or pool, then you meet at dinner.
- Into multi-sport weeks, golf + running + cycling + SUP + strength sessions, all based around the Cascais coast.
- Want a base near Lisbon that feels peaceful and green, but lets you taxi into Cascais for dinner or beach time.
If you’re after hardcore, punishing tournament golf, this isn’t that. But if you want a resort that makes golfing, relaxing, and having fun stupidly easy, this is very, very solid.

Final Thoughts
Between the coastal location, fun golf course, strong practice setup, and hotel/spa combo, Onyria Quinta da Marinha ticks pretty much every box we look for in a European golf resort.
It’s the kind of place where you wake up, look out at the course, and genuinely want to get out there. Bad shots hurt less because the views are good and the carts are comfy.
You can finish with a drink by the pool or in the bar and already start planning “next time we come back…” Would we go again? 100%!

“Course is fun, resort is clean, and the whole setup is just easy. A couple more tricky greens and it’s close to perfect for a boys’ trip.”
